One of the three longest running billfish tournaments in the world begins tomorrow right here in Palm Beach, Florida. As a proud sponsor, we’re excited to kick off the 56th Annual Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Release Tournament with the Captain’s Meeting at Sailfish Marina on Wednesday, January 22nd.
The big format change is no longer a secret, but it is important to take seriously. This year, lay day will be Captains choice, with two out of three scheduled dates devoted to fishing the competition. Each Captain must notify the committee via text by 7:30 am on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday if they are choosing to fish that day or not.
While the tournament itself is enough fun to participate in, the Buccaneer Cup is also a philanthropic effort to donate proceeds to the Recreational Fishing Alliance, as well as The Billfish Foundation.
The Buccaneer Cup begins with the Captain’s Meeting tomorrow, followed by fishing on January 24th, 25th, and 26th, 2019 (with chosen lay day as mentioned earlier). A Happy Hour Party will follow on January 25th at none other than the Buccaneer Resort and Marina on Singer Island, and the Awards Dinner will be on January 26th at The Sailfish Club on Palm Beach.
Last year, Viking 68 took first place, with Two Cats in second and Sandman just 100 points behind in third. Most points on live bait went to Sandman, and most points on dead bait went to Viking 68, who brought home over $80,000 in total winnings.
We want to wish all of our great friends and loyal clients good luck and tight lines!
